PRE-LAUNCH interest in Guangzhou's New Century Plaza indicates space in the development should be sold out quickly.

''It appears that the word is out on New Century Plaza,'' said Mr Dominic Leung, director of Richard Ellis, which has been appointed as the project's sole sales and marketing agent and development consultant.

''The telephones in our China Agency department have been ringing off the hook, even though the marketing campaign doesn't get underway until the end of March.'' Mr Leung said interest was evenly divided between Hongkong firms and multinational organisations looking to either establish offices in Guangzhou or move up from their existing premises in the provincial capital.

He said that given the present office space situation in Guangzhou, it was not surprising that New Century Plaza had generated such interest.

When completed in late September, the development will add another 330,000 square feet to the city's stock of Grade A commercial and retail space - virtually all of which is in Gitic Plaza and the World Trade Centre.

The two buildings, which are located in the city's central business district, account for about one million sq ft and were sold out almost as soon as they went on the market.
