There has been no change in political conditions and the rule of law since the handover, according to a new survey.
In the poll, conducted by the Social Science Research Centre at the University of Hong Kong, 36.9 per cent of respondents said they saw no change in the political situation since July 1.
However, 32.5 per cent said it had worsened and only 7.4 per cent believed there had been an improvement. The remaining 23.2 per cent said they did not know.
On the rule of law, 61 per cent said it had remained the same, 22 per cent said the situation had taken a turn for the worse and 5.8 per cent believed it had improved. The rest did not know.
More than 34 per cent of those questioned said they were less confident in the rule of law following the measures announced by the Government on the deportation of mainland-born children with right of abode.
Half of the respondents said the measures had not had any impact, while seven per cent were more confident.
