An unemployed man who took 'ice' before dragging a driver from his van and driving off in the vehicle was sent to a drug rehabilitation centre yesterday.

Shiu King-wai, 22, punched Ip Pak-oi, 33, in the face and threw him out of his van in Java Road, North Point, on July 4, Eastern Court heard.

Police caught up with him at the North Point ferry pier but Shiu jumped out of the van and dived into the harbour. He was later found hiding in the water under the pier. He admitted to police he had taken the drug ice before attacking the van driver.

Shiu pleaded guilty to causing bodily harm and stealing a vehicle.

He also admitted attacking a hairdresser at a Chai Wan games parlour on April 15 because he was unhappy about a haircut Chan Tin-ho, 17, had given his girlfriend.
