CELTIC'S stay-away star Paolo Di Canio may be back at Parkhead within the next seven days - but general manager Jock Brown is not holding out high hopes.
Di Canio, who has demanded an extra GBP 8,000 boost to his GBP 12,000 weekly wage, walked out in the Glasgow club before their UEFA Cup preliminary round first-leg tie with Inter Cabletel in Cardiff and is said by his agent to be 'unwell and under stress'.
Brown, who has not ruled out a reconciliation, said the situation was not affecting morale at the club.
'Di Canio's problem has not affected the dressing-room. The club must send out the correct signals for the longer term and we are dealing with the situation,' Brown said.
'The ball is in Di Canio's court. It is good to have a player who pleases the crowd, but our supporters cannot understand why Paolo cannot conform. If a player is disruptive, his influence over the crowd is not enough to save him.
'I would not rule out a reconciliation. In fact, I would welcome it. Anything which benefits the club comes before anything else.' Celtic have already rejected on bid of GBP 2 million from Manchester City for former Aston Villa striker Tommy Johnson although the English club are thought to be returning with an offer increased by GBP 500,000.
