Trend Micro and Symantec declare war on bugs in company systems
Fuelled by the growth of computer viruses in the workplace, Trend Micro and Symantec Corp have turned their anti-virus armoury towards eradicating bugs in corporate networks.
In Hong Kong, Intel's LANDesk Virus Protection is System-Pro's No 1 best-selling network debugging product, followed by Symantec's Norton AntiVirus.
The computer system and software seller ranked Command Software Systems (the maker of F-Prot) No 1 in sales of anti-virus desktop computer software, followed by Symantec, McAfee Associates and Trend.
Trend will release PC-cillin Corporate Edition 2.0 in Hong Kong later this month, with an updated version to follow by the end of the year.
Priced at US$79 per user, the product is touted to destroy computer viruses at every access point for offices that use Internet and intranet including disks, e-mail and downloaded files.
PC-cillin installs on servers using DOS, Windows 3.1, Windows 95 or Windows NT operating systems, and is deployed to computers within the network each time a user logs on to the terminal.
Symantec launched its Norton AntiVirus for Firewalls software during last week's Internet World exhibition at the Convention Centre. Similar to PC-cillin, AntiVirus is installed in servers and scans for viruses at the desktop, server, Internet gateway and firewall level.
