The hunt is on for five men, including four suspected 14K triad members, wanted over an attack on a government land officer that left him blinded in one eye.
A police source said the assault was believed to have been ordered after Ko Voei-tak, 36, rejected a proposal for a development near Yuen Long.
'Someone was unhappy with the land officer and hired triad members to punish him,' he added. 'Police have identified five men including the mastermind. Four of them are from the 14K triad society.
'Police believe they are in a hideout somewhere in Hong Kong.' Mr Ko was clubbed last Wednesday after being ambushed by three attackers in the lift lobby of the Yuen Long Government Offices Building, Kiu Lok Square.
He had received a nuisance call hours after he rejected the project in mid-July but did not report it at the time.
