PATRICK Biancone's team has been a little quiet of late after that brilliant run of seven doubles in succession. There were no winners again last night but there was a run of outstanding promise from his recent acquisition, Speedy Winner. So often a stablechange can revitalise a horse and that looked the case with Speedy Winner, under improving apprentice Simon Yim, only a lack of hard racing condition telling in the final 100 metres. It was a run which had future winner written all over it.

If Speedy Winner turns out between March 10 and 17 inclusive, though, he will not be ridden by maximum claimer Yim, who took a three-meeting ban for careless riding having caused Royal Horse and Humdinger to check on the 975-metre bend. It may also be worth keeping an eye on the previously enigmatic Saafi who was noted staying on well on the rails behind Speedy Winner. Saafi has been a problem horse in the past but he is now with Gary Ng Ting-keung who has done so well with this type.
