Taken for $1,500 ride

A taxi driver who charged an undercover policewoman $1,500 for a ride denied obtaining property by deception, the Eastern Court heard yesterday.

Suen Kwok-wai, 37, allegedly overcharged policewoman Chan Siu-ling, posing as a Japanese tourist, for a journey from Kai Tak airport to Wan Chai on June 6.

When the taxi arrived at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, the meter reading was $1,500.

Suen allegedly fixed an electronic switch in the driver's door to interfere with the meter.

Trial was set for September 23.
