Environmental awareness on wheels is the Environmental Protection Department's (EPD) novel way of getting its message to schools and housing estates.
Set up on a 10-tonne truck, the EPD mobile environmental resource centre will be able to reach outlying communities in a unique way.
Funded by a $2 million grant from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the mobile centre will hit the road in a year's time.
Visitors can make use of environmental publications, CD- ROMs, videos, computers, a trilingual touch-screen environmental information system and display board on different aspects of protecting natural surroundings.
In addition, the mobile centre - which will have access for the disabled - will serve as a mini-library.
An EPD spokeswoman said the department would now be better able to reach out to the public and provide them with environmental information.
