Sex education show pushes limits for TV
The Television Entertainment and Licensing Authority (TELA) says it will keep a close watch on a new late-night TVB show designed to provide sex education for children.
TVB admit the animated Japanese production, which will examine issues including masturbation and AIDS, will push the limits of what is permitted on television.
But the broadcaster believes the programme, aired with the co-operation of the Family Planning Association, will fulfil an important role.
The show entitled Sex Education for Children was originally produced by NHK in Japan but will include some locally produced elements.
TVB programme purchaser Lee Kai-cheong said the programme would include Japanese cartoons and appearances by staff from the Family Planning Association in Hong Kong.
'We have taken a pretty bold step in sex education here. We want to send the message across that children should know about their body structure and know how to protect themselves.
