Police in Guangdong have cracked down on an underground casino which was raided just one month ago.

 It was set up in a hotel in Yunfu City.

 The hotel had been ordered to close by the authorities because of its gambling operations.

 A report said that two teams of police officers were sent to the city on Monday night.

 They broke into the casino and arrested several dozen gamblers in the lobby.

 Further arrests were made after the officers discovered eight hidden compartments and 12 karaoke rooms inside the casino, the Hong Kong China News Agency reported.

 A total of 98 people were detained as a result of the raid, and more than 40,000 yuan (HK$37,360) and HK$10,000 in cash were seized.

  Officers also confiscated more than 30 slot machines, the report said.

 Last month, police suspended the licence of the same hotel not long after its third floor had been turned into a casino.

 But it reopened after only a week.

 The gambling den was said to have been operated by a consortium in Nanhai city, Guangdong.
