The operator of a casino's VIP room was shot and wounded late last night by a gunman who struck on the 12th floor of Macau's Mandarin Oriental Hotel.
Bosses at the five-star hotel confirmed the injured man was directly involved in the running of a room for high-rolling gamblers in the Mandarin's first-floor casino.
It was unclear if one or more shots were fired but police recovered just one spent bullet casing.
General Manager Frank Stocek said he did not know the victim's name and had no idea of the reason for the shooting.
The injured man - understood to be a Macau resident - suffered wounds to his hand and made his own way to hospital, where police were alerted.
The gunman was still at large early this morning.
Detectives searched the 12th-floor where rooms are mainly rented out to casino figures and their friends, but found few clues.
