Scores of disabled people will be given new hope of success in the job market when a retraining 'centre of excellence' opens at the start of next month.
Rights group Rehab Power yesterday announced plans for the centre in Yiu Tung Estate, Shau Kei Wan. It pledged to provide job-retraining, confidence-boosting therapy and tips on job-seeking, interview techniques and language.
Rehab director and social worker Charles Leung Siu-cheong, a polio sufferer, said the centre would cater for all types but specifically target people newly disabled by accident or disease.
It will be the SAR's first Career Development Centre for the physically disabled. It will also provide a support employment service where people can earn up to $1,000 more than in sheltered workshops.
Retraining work will be based largely on computer-related jobs commissioned by the business sector.
