The visit was part of a series of activities organised by the department in support of Heritage Year and the Summer Youth Programme.

Director of Home Affairs, Shelley Lau Lee Lai-kuen, said: 'We hope that through such visits, our young people would get to know more about the medical history of Hong Kong, how our health services have improved over the years, and develop a greater interest in our heritage in the process.' The visitors also witnessed the presentation of a $1 million cheque donation to the chairman of the museum, Dr Gerald Choa.

He said the museum was the first facility dedicated to exploring the interface between traditional Chinese and Western medicine and committed to further research in this area.

Dr Choa said the Edwardian-style building in Caine Lane, formerly occupied by the Pathological Institute, served as an educational venue and a secure location for the preservation of historical medical artifacts.
