APL brings Disney tour to Asia

APL is providing support for DisneyFest, the largest touring entertainment event to hit Asia.

The company is transporting about 1,000 tonnes of equipment from Disney's staging area in Burbank, near Los Angeles, to Singapore in time for set-up and rehearsals before the October 30 grand opening.

The tour also will include Hong Kong, although the itinerary has yet to be fixed.

The Singapore event is expected to draw 500,000 visitors.

APL's consolidation and logistics unit, American Consolidation Services, is providing logistical support. The operation has involved compressing a two-hectare installation into 90 containers.

APL vice-president for intra-Asia Torey Presti said the company would use its telecommunications and Internet-based tracking systems to schedule deliveries and to keep Disney informed of the location and customs status of each shipment.
