Former South African president F W de Klerk, who shared a Nobel Peace Prize with successor Nelson Mandela for leading South Africa to democracy, said he was quitting politics.

The National Party leader said he would use his retirement to pen his memoirs.
The party will choose a new leader on September 9, the day Mr de Klerk retires.
Mr Mandela said Mr de Klerk deserved an honourable place in history.
