First Division clubs will win record amounts of prize money in the Ericsson League this season. The mobile phone manufacturer is offering a total sponsorship of $1.12 million, including a $20,000 playing fee for each of the eight participating teams, prize money for both sides in each league match and a $100,000 bonus for the champions. In the new format, the league is divided into two phases. The first phase consists of a round robin, in which each team will play each other twice, making a total of 56 matches. The top four sides will enter the championship play-off section in the two-round second phase, while the bottom four will enter a relegation play-off section in which the last two teams will be relegated. To spice up the game, each team will have half of their points, goals-for and goals-against tallies carried over from first to second phase.
