The 1997-98 season commences in earnest next week.

But in a change from normal practice and at the behest of KCC, the cream of Hong Kong cricket will come out at KCC (10.30 am) for a limb-loosener which will also be interesting.

'We want to create a sense of competition and also to form a premier side for KCC.

'It should be a decent game of cricket for the start of the season,' said Bharat Gohel, KCC's captain of cricket.

A trophy will be awarded at the end of the game although Gohel was unsure what the trophy would be called.

'The intention is that this game will become the season's regular opening game. And apart from the annual encounter against the Hong Kong Cricket Club, this will be the only opportunity for KCC to field a premier side,' added Gohel.
