ATV has some explaining to do. Hong Kong people have the right to know who sanctioned ATV World's broadcast of the sham mainland 'documentary' on the Dalai Lama. One can only applaud the station for choosing to air a documentary in place of its usual B-grade evening movie, but the unscheduled broadcast of a Chinese propaganda film, which can only be described as both anti-Tibetan and anti-Western, is disturbing indeed. There is, of course, ideology inherent in every film, book, or work of art, but this was not journalism, it was politics. The broadcast appears to have been a sign that the more ominous aspects of the new era may well have begun. It is now up to ATV to say this is not so. BRIAN THOMPSON Lamma Island
