US$100 million Formula One circuit planned for Zhuhai
PLANS are expected to be submitted to the China Motorsports Association by the end of the month for a US$100 million development which will incorporate a purpose-built motor racing circuit up to Formula One standard.
The track, on a four square kilometre area north of Zhuhai, will also feature a 36-hole golf course, two five star hotels offering up to 500 rooms plus a condominium development which may include as many 4,000 units.
The unprecedented development is a joint venture between the Malaysian-based Lamdeal Investments Ltd and the Agriculture and Fisheries Department of the Zhuhai City Council.
Under the planned development, the Agriculture and Fisheries Department will provide the land and Lamdeal the development capital.
Lamdeal's technical director, Laurence Loh, said yesterday work would start in June on the project providing the CMSA approved the proposal and formally submitted the application to FISA, motorsport's governing body.
''The project hinges on the CMSA approving the project and formally recommending it to FISA,'' Loh explained.
If approval is forthcoming Lamdeal will be aiming to host a leg of the Formula One world championship as soon after construction is completed in about June, 1995.
