United States freight company United Parcel Service (UPS) is still waiting for the Airport Authority to decide on the opening date of Chek Lap Kok airport before making its own plans.
Perry Chao, UPS managing director for Hong Kong, said it would make a big difference if the opening was in April or June.
'The decision will affect our flight plan and increase costs due to the change of airports,' he said.
He said the firm also would have to reassess the latest cut-off time for receiving parcels or change its flight times.
Regarding the choice of terminals at Chek Lap Kok, Mr Chao said UPS had still not made a decision on which terminal it would use.
However, it is likely UPS will move into the dedicated express terminal for its dedicated customs facility which would treat the freight firm differently from other cargo handling terminals.
Mr Chao said if UPS chose the dedicated express terminal, he expected present cut-off times to be maintained due to the terminal's increased efficiency and productivity despite the distance between Chek Lap Kok and business districts.
