Central Tower will have to build two pedestrian footbridges in 18 months before it is given a permanent occupancy permit, the Buildings Department said yesterday.
Delays in footbridge construction in Central were highlighted when an unmarked police car mowed down lunchtime pedestrians last month outside Central Tower on Wyndham Street, killing three.
A department spokesman said consent to start work had been granted to Central Tower to build a bridge to Central Building across Queen's Road Central.
Consent will also be granted shortly to build another bridge across Wyndham Street to the Entertainment Building.
'A deed of dedication will be given to the building in two to three weeks, requiring the owner to complete the bridges within 18 months,' a spokesman said.
The department had been lenient on the neighbouring Entertainment Building, and the China Building.
