There will be ground-level luxury, too, at Chek Lap Kok with a 3,000-square- foot lounge for 'Upper Class' and Business Class travellers modelled on the Virgin Clubhouse at Heathrow.

The idea is to pamper executives in first-class style at business-class rates.

'Obviously, Virgin Atlantic Airways must keep its fares competitive to attract passengers,' said Mark Siladi, Virgin's regional general manager.

'Virgin is renowned for its innovation and sense of fun. Our little 'extras', such as inflight beauty therapy and the 16-channel personal TV, aim to make relaxation and fun the key features of flying with us.

'We believe that ensuring every passenger has the most enjoyable flight possible is the best way of raising the profile of our airline, which will, in turn, generate both revenue and prestige.' A round trip from Hong Kong to London for Upper Class was recently priced at about $35,000, if the ticket was issued directly by the airline. But passengers can expect a pampering from one of the first airlines to offer reclining sleeper seats with a 55 to 60-inch (about 1m 40cm to 1m 53cm) seat pitch for business-class travellers.
