Oasis set out to distance themselves from their contemporaries with their latest album, Be Here Now.

The whole affair becomes a 72-minute epic, as the 12 songs are all sprawling tracks.

They are characterised by walloping drums, layer upon layer of guitars, and atmospheric sound collages - courtesy of Noel Gallagher.

Gallagher senior produced the album with Owen Morris at the famous Abbey Road studios in London, and a handful of other venues.

Like its predecesors, Be Here Now relies on Noel's songwriting and lead guitar work, the sometimes whining voice of little brother Liam, and the solid bass and drums of Paul McGuigan and Alan White, respectively. Paul Arthers plays rhythm guitar.

Noel Gallagher's melodies for such landmark tracks as Stand By Me, The Girl in the Dirty Shirt and Don't Go Away are among his sturdiest and most catchy ever.
