Smashing Pumpkin and Strikers were the star workers on a busy and informative morning at Sha Tin yesterday.

The David Hayes-trained pair were out early making use of the grass and doing so in just about the most impressive fashion imaginable.

Smashing Pumpkin was a progressive staying type last season but however good he was last term, his early work suggests he's going to be even better this time.

'I really think he's improved a good few lengths,' Hayes enthused yesterday after observing Smashing Pumpkin and Strikers almost float to the line.

'He was a good horse last season and then I think I messed him up a bit towards the end.

'Now I'm really happy with the way he's going and would like to think he'll develop into a very good horse indeed.' They weren't hanging around in yesterday's gallop with Smashing Pumpkin appearing to be going the better of the pair as they came below the distance.
