The small companies that run holiday homes on Cheung Chau have erected sales counters right in front of official signs.
The District Board notice board is obscured completely by a sales kiosk, I hear from Dan Wong. The Caritas notice board is also stuck behind a sales counter.
This is not a bad thing, since the island is being swamped by unnecessary signs.
Taxpayers will be delighted to learn they have also financed a large 'Welcome to Cheung Chau' sign. Unfortunately, it has been positioned so visitors only see it when they leave.
The Transport Department has erected a sign on the top of a seven-foot pole, behind a tree, informing residents that any transport complaints should be directed to the given phone number.
What a worthy thing for a caring government to do . . . except for one thing: Cheung Chau has no transport. There are no roads, cars, buses or trucks.
