Tung backs homes plan

Tung Chee-hwa yesterday expressed confidence his plan to build 85,000 flats every year would be implemented.

Mr Tung underlined the message when he met the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Progressive Alliance to hear views on his policy address.

He was quoted as saying labour shortages would be one of the main problems in meeting the target.

Chan Wing-chan, a DAB provisional legislator, said the Chief Executive did not say whether the quota for imported labours would be increased. The Progressive Alliance called on Mr Tung to appoint a senior official to co-ordinate all departments involved in building flats.
