A student heard his chances of studying at Cambridge University could be in jeopardy after he was convicted of attacking a fellow student. Liem Hai-ming, 26, hit Fu Kwun-cheung, 24, outside the University of Science and Technology in Clear Water Bay on July 23, claiming he made a rude gesture to his girlfriend. Kwun Tong magistrate Henry Mierczak said there was no reason for Liem to punch Mr Fu in the mouth. Sentencing was adjourned to October 3. Mr Mierczak warned a custodial sentence could not be ruled out. The first-year doctoral student was due to leave for Cambridge University in mid-October, the court heard. Liem's girlfriend, Yip Chui-ying, 25, was acquitted of a joint charge of causing bodily harm to Mr Fu. Liem, who denied the charge, was caught after Mr Fu saw his picture in college.
