In her letter to these columns on September 5, Ronna Choa Heffner asked what was wrong with drivers in Hong Kong. Well, that is an easy question to answer.

Hong Kong drivers on the whole are rude, aggressive and selfish, all of which contribute to a most dangerous beast controlling a vehicle.

They also seem to totally disregard speed limits, road signs, pedestrian crossings, red lights and yellow junction boxes. The list goes on.

Would they think of letting somebody out of a side road? No. Would they stop to let anyone, especially the elderly, who are a bit slow off the mark cross the road? No. Not a bit of it, Hong Kong drivers just blast that wretched horn and drive through.

Furthermore, their vehicle-handling skills are dreadful, they are constantly braking for no apparent reason and they drive dangerously close to the vehicles in front of them. Have they not heard of braking distances? Last but not least, can those drivers who have a mobile phone attached to the ear, have it surgically removed and concentrate on the road with both hands on the steering wheel? FIONA HILL Wan Chai
