Reviewing the Philippine fast-food chain Jollibee was not quite what I had in mind when I embarked upon the heady and glamorous career of restaurant critic.
However, my interest was piqued as this would be my first visit to a Jollibee's restaurant (Maccie D's had always seemed the natural choice for fast food). Casting aside my pretensions, I gathered an assortment of hungry friends, and we set out to munch our way through Jollibee's gastronomic delights.
The air was heavy with expectation as we arrived at our destination in Central.
Perusing the colourful a la carte selection on the large board, we found soups, burgers, fried chicken, fries, spaghetti, hot dogs, a burger steak and fish burgers. For dessert, we could choose from sundaes, peach mango pie or milkshakes.
Prices were very reasonable and there were various 'Jolli-Value Meals' on offer ranging from $16 to $24, with extra price discounts between 3pm and 5pm.
To the amusement of the friendly and helpful young lady behind the counter, we thought it only fair to sample absolutely everything on offer. We staggered down the stairs to the main seating area, our trays laden with the paper-wrapped parcels.
