The latest of Hong Kong's new mobile telephone networks have launched commercial operations with an introductory promotion that offers potentially the cheapest cellular deal ever seen in the SAR.
Mandarin Communications' personal communications services (PCS) network, called 'Sunday', began offering unlimited airtime for $88 a month yesterday.
'This is an offer that everyone can afford to try,' managing director Craig Ehrlich said.
Mandarin is the first of Hong Kong's eight mobile operators to offer an unlimited airtime deal.
Rival operator Peoples' Telephone charges no monthly fee but has a flat rate of $1 per minute.
Mandarin deputy chairman Richard Siemens said after the six-month promotion period he expected to charge about $180 a month for 100 minutes.
He said he expected between 100,000 and 200,000 customers to have signed up by the end of June.
