A fresh pledge to add the fight against corruption to the world financial agenda is drawing a cool reception from some countries fearful it will lead to interference in their domestic political affairs. Russian Finance Minister Anatoly Chubais warned of the danger that a commitment to fight corruption adopted on Monday at international financial meetings would lead to the IMF and World Bank becoming 'instruments of political pressure'. On Monday, the development committee of the IMF and the World Bank agreed that the fight against corruption was key to reducing poverty.
