YOUR Ecowatch article (South China Morning Post, February 22) referred to air pollution in Repulse Bay caused by exhaust emissions from tourist buses. It quoted a Hongkong Tourist Association spokeswoman as saying that there are no easy solutions to the problem.
One solution, surely, would be to limit the number of tourist buses. Many of these seem to carry just a handful of passengers, as they dawdle aimlessly around the island. A pooling of buses and passengers should lead to a smaller number of fuller buses.
Any overspill could travel on CMB (like the rest of us have to do). If this was to discourage tourism, I am sure no one in Repulse Bay would complain.
The article also mentioned the problem of tourist buses parking on the pavements in Repulse Bay. In fact, on a typical Sunday, everyone parks on the pavement, and pedestrians all walk along the roads. Some of our tourists from more orderly lands must wonder over this bizarre role reversal.
