A row broke out in the legislature chamber yesterday after Executive Council members were called 'stupid'. After a stand-off, independent Andrew Wong Wang-fat later withdrew his remark on the orders of provisional legislature President Rita Fan Hsu Lai-tai. He had been moving an amendment on the election committee voting method when he said the Executive Council members who decided on it were 'stupid'. As three Exco members were also provisional legislators, Mrs Fan ruled he had actually insulted his colleagues and asked Mr Wong to withdraw the remark. But tension filled the chamber when Mr Wong failed to reply, and the president decided to order a five-minute recess. Mr Wong, a former legislative council president, returned from the break agreeing to take back his remarks. He once asked ousted legislator Leung Yiu-chung to leave the council chamber because he found his remarks about colleagues insulting.
