Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) has been chosen by the motor industry in Europe to test a protective substance developed to prevent corrosion of parts and materials during container transport.
OOCL received seven 40-foot containers from BMW packed with car parts and measuring instruments for a voyage from Bremerhaven to Singapore and return.
The load left Bremerhaven on Friday and will be stored for 14 days on arrival in Singapore.
The boxes will then be shipped to Hong Kong and on to Pusan, where they will be stored for another 14 days before returning to Singapore and back to Bremerhaven - a total journey of 81 days.
OOCL said that before the journey the car parts were given 'gas treatment' with a new anti-corrosion chemical called VCI. The technology pays special attention to health, safety and pollution control.
