LOK Sin Tong Ku Chiu Man Secondary School won the Grade A boys' overall championship while St Margaret's Girls' College retained the Grade A girls' title at the Kwai Ching inter-school athletic championships held at the Kwai Chung Sports Ground recently.

  In the boys' Grade A section, competition was extremely keen among the top three schools - Ku Chiu Man, Cotton Spinners' Association Prevocational School and TWGHs Mrs Wu York Yu Memorial College - with only a difference of 10 points separating each team.

  Ku Chiu Man and Wu York Yu each won five events with the former dominating the long distance races.

  Ku Chiu Man's Chow Chi-keung took the 1,500 m and 300 m in 4 minutes 22.29 seconds and 9 min 55.8 sec respectively, beating Shum Koon-hung of Cotton Spinners' on both occasions.

  In the 4 x 400 m, Ku Chiu Man narrowly beat Cotton Spinners' to take the gold in 3 min 44.53 sec.

  Wu York Yu's Tung Chung-man scored easy victories in both the 110 m and 400 m hurdles, a repeat of last year's performances.

  In the sprints, Law Ho-yin of Cotton Spinners' beat defending champion Chai Kar-man of Wu York Yu in the 100 m and 200 m, clocking 11.38 sec and 23.37 sec respectively.

  Despite losing the Grade A title, Wu York Yu dominated the Grade B events, taking seven gold medals and the overall championship.

  Chau Chi-kuen became Grade B's fastest runner, taking both the 100 m and 200 m in 11.75 sec and 24.73 sec respectively. He then guided Wu York Yu to victory in the 4 x 100 m.

  Tang Wing-kin of Buddhist Yip Kei Nam Memorial College also landed two gold medals, winning the 400 m and 800 m in 54.12 sec and 2 min 11.68 sec respectively.

  Wing-kin's outstanding performance helped his school win the 4 x 400 m and the runners-up spot on the overall standings.

  The most outstanding Grade C performer was SKH Lam Woo Memorial School's Lau Tak-fung. He bagged three gold medals, taking the 100 m and 200 m and the long jump.

  After winning the 4 x 100 m and 4 x 400 m, the school collected a total of 81 points to take the overall title, nine points ahead of runners-up Wu York Yu.

  On the girls' side, St Margaret's Girls' College lived up to expectations, holding off the strong challenge of SKH Lam Woo Memorial School to take the Grade A title for the second year running.

   Lam Woo Memorial made a remarkable progress this year by winning five events, including the 4 x 100 m and 4 x 100 m. With three golds and higher placings in other events, St Margaret's scored a 129-94 victory over Lam Woo.
