When you sell the ultimate in conspicuous consumption like Ferarri and Maserati sports cars as well as state-of-the-art audio-visual products like Pioneer and Marantz, what could you possibly want for your birthday? That was exactly the dilemma that Kathryn Lee faced when it came to her husband's (entrepreneur Richard Lee) birthday.
But Kathryn is one smart cookie. Instead of getting him a tie or a set of golf clubs, she decided to give her husband a sponsored baby's cot from Mother's Choice, where she is a fund-raising committee member.
She told me: 'It costs $55,000 a year and whichever child sleeps in that cot benefits from that sponsorship money. It makes Richard so happy to know that the money I spent on his birthday present goes towards helping a baby from Mother's Choice.' Now, if only more wives could be like Kathryn.
