STOLT-Nielsen Leasing, of Romford, England has developed a reefer tank container for transporting vinyl pyridine products to the Far East and the Americas. The tank, which has been developed to meet requirements of UK Chemicals manufacturer Synthetic Chemicals, is a 20 ft insulated ISO tank container fitted with a refrigeration unit. It is capable of holding up to 21,000 litres of hazardous product at set temperatures between minus 15 degrees centigrade and 20 degrees centigrade. The first trial of the vinyl pyridine product conducted in late July was completed without incident. Since then the tank has returned to the UK in September and has shipped two further cargoes. Mr Graham Hill, of Synthetic Chemicals, said the company had asked Stolt-Nielsen to construct further tanks of the same design.
