Democrats agree to investigate claims against rival's NPC selection
Democrat Albert Chan Wai-yip yesterday withdrew his resignation from key party posts after a Central Committee decision to investigate his allegations against vice-chairman Dr Anthony Cheung Bing-leung.
Mr Chan said he was resuming party work after the committee agreed to address his complaints.
'Now that the party has decided to take note of my complaints, I have decided to accept their bid to persuade me to stay,' said Mr Chan.
Apart from investigating his allegations, the Democrats' Disciplinary Committee will also examine whether Mr Chan breached party rules by openly criticising Dr Cheung.
The committee, headed by barrister Eric Shum Sze-man, will conduct its first meeting tomorrow.
Mr Chan refused to comment further on the party's action, saying he would 'not make any more public comments [that might] obstruct the investigation.' He said he would abide by whatever decision the disciplinary committee reached, and pledged not to quit the party as a result of its findings.
