Locomotive-makers to merge

The Ministry of Railways plans to merge five of its enterprises into two corporations to help streamline locomotive production, an industry official says. Qishuyan Locomotive and Rolling Stock Works vice-president Wu Jianxing said the plan was part of state-sector reform. A northern corporation, producing mainly smaller locomotives, would include Dalian Diesel Locomotive Works. A southern corporation, producing larger locomotives, would group Qishuyan with Ziyang Locomotive Works and Chengdu Locomotive Works, both in Sichuan.
