Tai Po Junior Police Call members have showed they care for the elderly and needy.

  More than 200 members took part in nine summer visits to centres for the elderly in Tai Po, Sheung Shui and Fanling.

  'All the programmes were tailor-made for elderly people. We hoped to bring them happiness,' said one member, Wong Pak-shing.

  Entertainment included Chinese music, opera and drama.

  'The grandpas and grandmas liked the Chinese orchestra show,' said Pak-shing, of HKTA Yuen Yuen Institute No 2 Secondary School.

  'They clapped their hands enthusiastically,' he added.

  The teenagers were amazed at how keen the elderly folks were when it came to playing games.

  'It was wonderful that they could play like kids. Every time we asked who wanted to join a game, almost all of them raised their hands,' said Pak-shing.

  JPC members also left gifts - greetings cards, paper flowers and silk ribbons.

  'It was a bad-weather morning with a typhoon signal being hoisted. But despite the downpour, we were making the cards in the JPC club house,' he said.

 'We just wanted to show our care and concern for the elderly. We were deeply impressed when a 90-year-old lady held my hand and told me kindly that she was so happy to have our friendship,' Pak-shing added.

  He said he had decided giving was more important than receiving and vowed to do more for needy people.
