Wine: Faiveley Clos de Vougeot Grape: Pinot noir Region: Vougeot, Burgundy, France Vintage: 1993 Buying Burgundy is very difficult as the wines vary so much in quality, and price is not necessarily an accurate indicator.

The Vougeot appellation in Burgundy is perhaps its most notorious as quality can range from abysmal right up to magnificent.

Wines must be chosen with great care.

As always, the producer is more important than the appellation in Burgundy.

The house of Faiveley is always one of the most reliable.

Their Grand Cru Burgundy Clos de Vougeot is indisputably at the top end of the spectrum.

Unfortunately, less than 500 cases of this wine are produced and consequently it is quite expensive.
