Descending From CX838 In Cantonese Paul Poon On Vacation McAulay Studio Arts Centre October 14 If there was any link between this production and New Life Movement, this year's NOW Festival theme, it is not obvious.

Written and directed by Paul Poon of Prospects Theatre, this youth production explores the director's own fantasy of falling, and the definition of a fallen person.

Imagine you have fallen out of a plane. Where would you want to land? Poon has chosen a rubbish tip in Tai O, Lantau Island. There, you meet your good friends and then one of them kills you off.

Not exactly my kind of fantasy, but local youth theatre often comes up with works that have a bleak and gloomy undertone.

Descending from CX838 is no exception. It is an abstract tale of friendship between four school friends Ah Kir (Hui Chiu-kin), Kwong Lai (Lui Pui-yee), Ah Choi (Lam Yuk-hing) and Sa Sze (Fung Chi-ho).

The play opens on the eve of the foul-mouthed Sa Sze's departure for Canada. He is being sent there by his equally foul-mouthed mother as a punishment. The audience will not learn about his 'crime' until later on.
