Celebrity and film producer Kwan Wai-pang - better known as Teddy Robin - was at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre to attend the Hong Kong Film Archive Collection Campaign yesterday.

 Kwan is married with a 16-year-old son and a 12-year-old daughter.

 During the 1960s he formed his own band - Teddy Robin and the Playboys - while still in his teens. The group became a familiar sight and sound to those delving into the local music scene at the time.

 Since then he has moved into the film industry, taking successful roles as actor and director. Now he has his own production company, Tedpoly Films.

What's on your mind?  I have always been a great movie lover and this campaign is very meaningful.

 It's a great thing. The best part is seeing the enthusiasm of the donors. A lot of them are not even connected with the industry.

 We have a wealth of classics, like those old black-and-white films from the 1940s and 1950s, and some of the early colour films.

What about a favourite film from that era?  There are too many. I love a lot of the Mandarin films made by the Shaw brothers in the mid-1960s.

 But in those days I was heavily into Western films - it was the in thing.

Do you plan to donate some of your films to the campaign?  I've got a couple of films in mind. They'll either be films I've directed or award-winning ones, but they will not be films I have starred in.

What was the first film you starred in?  It was back in 1970, a film called The Prize of Love. The film was very popular in Southeast Asia. As a result I toured Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

 The funny thing is, I've never actually seen the film myself. I was much more preoccupied with the success of my band at the time.

Do you have any plans for producing new films?  I've got a couple of scripts on hand but the market is bad. But given the chance, I would like to try something experimental.

Other events have also celebrated Hong Kong's musical and film history. Did the Pop History Concert, in July, bring back memories for you?  For me it was purely a fun night. I don't think I performed at my best but I was more concerned with having a fun reunion and creating a good atmosphere than the actual singing. I really enjoyed myself that night.
