THERE won't be much value on offer, but a return on your investment looks guaranteed when Keen Talent next visits the race course.
The Patrick Biancone-trained four-year-old was wide for a major part of the 1,600-metre, Class Three, fifth event, won by the Basil Marcus-ridden Kewins, and stuck on well to finish a good fourth, just 4.25 lengths from the winner.
With Marcus setting a dawdling pace, Brett Doyle elected to keep Keen Talent in striking distance, from where he loomed as a threat on the corner before running out of puff over the final 150 metres.
Under the circumstances, it was a great performance and this lightly-raced son of Halo, who has never finished worse than fifth from his four career starts, looks ready to progress up the handicap. He won over 1,400 metres as a griffin late last season and should get further than a mile in time.
Earlier, there was an eye-catching effort from debutant Rangeela from the in-form Lawrie Fownes team.
The three-year-old Australian-bred went off at 17-1 for the Class Four third event won by Winning Supreme and he did have excuses, being starved of a run at a vital stage before finishing the 1,400 metres off encouragingly. Wendyll Woods got him going in the straight and he finished a respectable fourth.
