Mohanna Marzook hammered an unbeaten 76 in 39 balls as JKN Little Sai Wan romped to a 65-run victory over defending Sunday League champions Optimists yesterday.
The Sai Wan captain, coming in at the fall of the fourth wicket, was in outstanding form as he hit eight huge sixes over the ropes at the Hong Kong Cricket Club.
Marzook was continuing from where Riaz Farcy and Priyantha Fernando had left off - the duo figuring in a mammoth 170-run partnership from 31 overs for the second wicket.
The whirlwind team-up ended when Fernando was run out, trying to steal a run from Stewart Brew at mid-wicket. Fernando scored 79 including 13 fours and a six. But Hong Kong international Farcy was not to be denied a century. He made 100 with six sixes and nine fours.
'Our batting clicked yesterday . . . it was a good victory,' said a delighted Marzook afterwards.
Almost a third of Sai Wan's total of 309 for seven came in hits over the ropes. Another 100 or so came from boundaries. The Optimists bowlers never knew what hit them.
