Lingnan set for elevated status

Lingnan College expects to gain university status within two years.

College president Professor Chen Kwan-yiu said he was confident of success in the Institutional Review in January.

'The review assesses the maturity of the college and its capability to undertake self-accreditation,' he said.

'If we gain the self-accreditation status, we will have autonomy in our academic development. As a by-product, we can also apply for university status.

A month after the University Grants Committee review in January, the college will be notified of the result.

'If the review is successful, the college could apply for self-accreditation status from the Executive Council, and then seek legislative council approval,' Professor Chen said.
