Miss Hong Kong Virginia Yung Ka-shui (left) and runner-up Charmaine Sheh visited the Orbis flying hospital at Kai Tak yesterday, and pledged to donate their corneas for transplants.
The pair also had their eyes tested during the flying hospital's goodwill stopover as the plane continues a worldwide crusade to eliminate all curable blindness by the year 2020.
Orbis receives its most generous charity donations in Hong Kong, partly due to its special involvement in China, where it conducts more medical programmes than in any other country.
The plane has just completed a three-week medical mission to Hefei, Anhui province, where sight-saving skills were passed on to more than 900 doctors. Orbis has trained about 10,500 medical personnel in 14 Chinese provinces.
