OOCL joins in Qingdao project

Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) will join with Qingdao Harbour Factory to develop a container depot in Qingdao.

OOCL will set up a joint venture with Qingdao Harbour Factory, a subsidiary of Qingdao Port Authority, to develop the facilities with an annual capacity of 120,000 teu (20 ft equivalent units).

The depot is scheduled to begin operation in the second quarter of next year.

'The depot will enhance OOCL's container transport services to and from Qingdao and will serve as OOCL's dedicated equipment and logistics centre in Qingdao,' said Bosco Louie, director of operations, OOCL (Asia Pacific).

When the second stage is completed, the depot capacity will rise to 160,000 teu a year.

The joint venture's main services will include storage depot, warehouse and transport services. Reefer container storage space also will be available.
