Three retired mainland leaders met Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa at a Government House banquet yesterday.
Former Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) vice-chairman Wang Feng, 87; former Beijing party secretary Duan Junyi, 87; and former CPPCC vice-chairman Ma Wenrui, 85, were the first retired cadres to visit since the handover.
Chief Secretary for Administration Anson Chan Fang On-sang and Secretary for Justice Elsie Leung Oi-sie were among officials who met the group.
Local delegates, including CPPCC vice-chairman Henry Fok Ying-tung and National People's Congress Standing Committee member Tsang Hin-chi, attended the lunchtime banquet.
Xinhua said last night that the visitors were happy to see the prosperity of Hong Kong some 100 days after the reunification.
